the car wash therapy session

Directed & Produced: Jose Angel

Cinematographer: Jose Angel

Filmscore: Emile Mosseri , Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith

I'm going to change the way you feel about a carwash after this. Going into this project I knew that I wanted to get as creative as possible with it because mental health is an extremely important topic for me. As a mental health advocate myself I wanted to take you into this journey where I want you to just relax and enjoy the session. The creative direction behind this scene is that I want you to embrace and immerse yourself into the moment and leave all your mixed feelings and emotions behind and let them get washed away and as you’re exiting you’ll find yourself with a clean mind and leaving all your bad moments, bad feelings and bad thoughts behind and you’re entering a fresh beginning. We all have different ways of coping with stress, anxiety, depression or losing a loved one. It’s ok if this session makes you sad, happy, relaxed, joyful, soothing or if it makes you cry because it reminds you of something tough that you went through in life, it’s all part of the healing process let it stimulate all your senses. Just remember that no matter what, there’s always going to be light at the other end of the tunnel. My work and creative direction on all my projects will always be created with the soul intention to always make you feel some type of way. Make sure you watch it all the way to the end and soak it all in………..

Digital Love" is a song by the French electronic music duo Daft Punk. It was released as the third single from the album Discovery on 11 June 2001 and reached number 33 in France, number 28 in Italy, and number 14 in the United Kingdom. As part of the album, the song is featured in the film Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. As documented in the Discovery liner notes, the song features a sample of "I Love You More" by George Duke. The sample was worked into an electronic pop song about unspoken love with lyrics by DJ Sneak and vocals performed by Daft Punk. Friend and occasional collaborator Chilly Gonzales remarked upon the unresolved chord progression derived from the sample, noting that the suspended harmonies contribute to the song's sense of longing and desire.

Being a documentary filmmaker & photographer gives me the freedom to capture the essence of an artist such as DJ Sneak and allows me to tell a story with his control and passion for the love he has for House Music. Being able to be behind the scenes gives me a sense of control with my story , it allows me to capture those keys moments that later on go on to tell a story of the artist and his inspiration and motivation for the art of music.

This project really pushed me far I always enjoy challenges, I needed to write a good treatment and have a good script to work with to tell this story. The storyline or logline are always important key elements of a short story. The goal is to pull your audience into the scenes and story so that they can feel all the sequence of events in every shot, scene or frame.

Opening scenes are extremely important in any film, movie or documentary, they set the tone for the audience and viewers. Certain opening scenes will start to tell a visual story of the film and give the audience a certain type of feeling and that’s what cinema is all about at the end of the day. Location is a key role and element of a scene, it consist of a lot of location scouting and finding the perfect place to tell your story. Film scoring, long takes and style of framing will eventually make it's way to the build up or climax of the script, treatment or sequence of events.

The Story of House Music Documentary

Directed & Produced: Jose Angel

Cinematographer: Jose Angel

House Music: House is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by a repetitive four-on-the-floor beat and a tempo of 120 to 130 beats per minute. It was created by DJs and music producers from Chicago's underground club culture in the 1980s, as DJs from the subculture began altering disco songs to give them a more mechanical beat and deeper basslines. The genre was pioneered by DJs and producers mainly from Chicago, New York and other parts of the world. Frankie Knuckles, DJ Sneak, Bad Boy Bill, Mark Farina, Derrick Carter Czr & Ito, DJ Jes, Felix da Housecat, Fast Eddie, Terry Hunter, Armand Van Helden, Larry Levan, Ron Hardy, Chip E., Mr. Lee, Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, Marshall Jefferson, Phuture and others played a huge role in this movement and house music culture. From its beginnings in the Chicago club and local radio scene, the genre expanded internationally to London, then to other American cities such as New York City and Detroit before becoming a worldwide phenomenon. House music has had a large impact on pop music, especially dance music. It was incorporated by major pop artists including Janet Jackson, Madonna and Kylie Minogue, but also produced some mainstream hits on its own, such as "French Kiss" by Lil Louis (1989), "Show Me Love" by Robin S. (1992) or "Push the Feeling On" by Nightcrawlers (1992/1995). Many house producers also did and continue to do remixes for pop artists. Until today, house music has remained popular on radio and in clubs while retaining a foothold on the underground scenes across the globe.

The Phantom’s Revenge | DJ & Producer

Directed & Produced: Jose Angel

Cinematographer: Jose Angel

Jose Angel's filmmaking & directing style is far from normal, Angel has a specific approach and a very distinctive style and technique for every scene. What seems different and odd to others he sees it as an opportunity to produce something different and further allows him to experiment with a wider spectrum and see the bigger picture with his creative process. His visual creative process starts with a simple idea and a very simple yet complex creative treatment or script for every one of his hand selected projects. Jose Angel pays a lot of attention to detail from textures, colors, shades, sounds, lighting, shadows, shapes and full framing, he likes a busy frame. Jose Angel is known for his staggering and countless long takes and long shots. His camera movement has never been about capturing completely perfect still or stabilized shots or takes. His mood on a set will determine if whether or not he'll capture his footage with a shoulder rig, hand held rig, gimbal stabilizer, 3 - Axis camera gimbal, camera crane or any other piece of equipment. Jose Angel focuses more on the storyline and the emotions and feelings as the scene is unfolding right before your eyes.

In cinema or film-making a certain filmscore or soundtrack selection for a very specific scene, shot or long take will always set the tone for the opening scene or the closing scene. Remember in cinema or film-making it's not about being the best, it's about capturing all the emotions in the scene and bringing them to life for your audience to experience. Focus on your screenwriting , treatment or your script and build up on a good story-line that will tell a story at the end and that is what's going to set you apart from the rest.

In this scene I wanted to capture the essence of the streets of Chicago so I scouted a few locations for a few days different neighborhoods, streets & avenues. I selected this neighborhood on the Southside of Chicago known as Pilsen. I selected Pilsen for the rich colors, art, murals and the strong culture in this neighborhood and I incorporated every detail into this scene and the music selection tied in perfectly with this production.

In this specific project going into it I knew I wanted to do something completely different and unique for my good friends CZR & Ito. Their music production has a very distinctive style and sound so I wanted to bring the visuals alive so that it can resonate with the soundtrack. The soundtrack has layers and layers of sound bites and the car wash scene puts all those layers into place as the scene is unfolding.

In filmmaking, a long take is a shot lasting much longer than the conventional editing pace either of the film itself or of films in general. Significant camera movement and elaborate blocking are often elements in long takes, but not necessarily so. If there’s one thing every aspiring filmmaker should consider if they want to achieve success, it’s learning to take chances and be persistent. Not giving up on risky creative ideas is what separates the good films and their makers from the great ones. These tracking takes involve complicated camera movement, countless hours of rehearsing, and enormous amounts of patience, as a single mistake forces the team to prepare and shoot the scene all over again. Of course, long takes almost always stand out from the rest of the film when done right. Whether it’s an elaborate action sequence or an establishing shot, viewers love watching a scene unfold without any visual interruptions. This is why many directors pay close attention to long shots, even if it might cost them valuable time and resources the end result is priceless and the long takes tell a story......
